The Peanut Butter & Jelly Campaign!

SCMA is proud to support the PB&J Campaign of the North Carolina Guadian ad Litem (GAL) Program.

Our social worker, Deanna Ayers, is a certified, volunteer Guardian ad Litem and we strongly support her important work with young people even as our business serves seniors.

A Guardian ad Litem represents the best interest of children in court.  Much of a GAL's work is confidential, so it's largely unknown outside of the court room.  This project is a way for the state and local GAL districts to engage the community, raise awareness of the GAL Program and provision our local Food Banks.

Here's how you can help:

The Durham Judicial District (14th) GAL Program is hosting a food drive to raise awareness and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.  Donated peanut butter and jelly (in plastic containers, please) will be delivered to area food banks on January 21st.

You can drop off you PB & J donations at the following locations by January 18th:

Guardian ad Litem Office
Durham County Courthouse
510 S. Dillard St., 5th Floor
Durham, NC

4905 Pine Cone Dr., Suite 2

Slow Down the Hospital Discharge Rush

All of sudden, the hospital says,
"Mom has to leave..."
What can you do if you need
more time to plan?

Kaiser Health News recently published an excellent article on understanding the right to a Medicare "fast appeal", especially when faced with a discharge that seems too soon, sudden, or requires additional time to plan for the next move.

"Every older adult admitted to a hospital as an inpatient has the right to challenge a discharge if he or she feels unprepared to leave. But few people understand the process that’s involved.

"Frequently, seniors and their families are caught by surprise when a transfer from the hospital is at hand."  - KHN

Senior Care Management Associates can help too.  Our experienced care managers, social workers, and nurses understand how to help our clients navigate the often confusing and overwhelming Medicare system - especially when your faced with a significant medical event or care transition.

CONTACT US if you need help now, or need to make plans for the future.
