Bridge Over Troubled Water - The Role of a Geriatric Care Manager

11/11/2015

by Bill Crittenden, SCMA founder
In the 1970's the singing duo of Simon and Garfunkel were having many of their songs reach the top of the popular charts.  One of the most popular songs, "Bridge Over Troubled Water", could be an apt description for many of the services provided by geriatric care managers.  While no person or organization can eliminate our "troubled waters", or those life events which afflict and perplex us all, we can be grateful for the "bridges" which assist us in our journey.

We all have met many people who are natural "bridges".  By their very presence they assist and support others in troubled times.  The two most frequently asked questions that get raised in troubled times are "What do we do now?" and "What do we do then (next)?"  The now-and-then issues are as unique as the people who are experiencing them.

What do we do now that we know Mom cannot live safely alone any longer?  What do we do now that we fully realize that Dad should not be driving any more, and who should be involved in telling him that we are taking his keys away?  Talk about needing a bridge over these troubled waters!  How would you approach these issues if it involved your Mom or Dad?

The professional care managers of Senior Care Management Associates understand the issues facing an ever-increasing older population.  Care managers have, as the colloquial phrase goes, "been there - done that", which can be a great comfort to those who may well be facing each of these issues for the first time.

"Every day I am confronted with questions and issues that I never thought I would have to answer", one of our family members said in complete exasperation.

Through careful listening to the unique questions and concerns of our clients, we develop with the senior person and family members a clear plan of action.

Bridges over trouble waters do exist!  We welcome your questions and issues.  As Simon and Garfunkle remind us, "When your weary, feeling small, when tear are in your eyes...", Senior Care Management will be your ready source of support.

Contact us today if you need a bridge!
